Does Anyone Care?

Is anyone out there? Does anyone care about Ohio's Mentally Retarded people and their families? I know that there are many of you out there. In fact, every month of the year your peers who serve as board members for the Ohio League meet. These hard working, dedicated people raise money, provide assistance in their geographical areas, and meet with legislators and others to fight for the right of your loved ones. I know they are there for me and my loved ones.
Are you still out there and are you still fighting with us? In the past year the OLMR Board has attempted to meet with more of you personally. We have done this by holding our quarterly membership meetings in the four corners of the state. It was our hope that more of you would make it a point to attend at least one of these meetings, especially if the distance you have to drive was shorter. We hear from many of you... but only when you have a problem with your own loved one's care. We want to help you, that is why we exist. Without your support--attendance at general membership meetings and conventions, dues, contributions, and support of our fund raisers, we won't be here to provide the assistance.
We all get busy and forget our friends until something of a crisis occurs.
The League is and has always operated within a crisis environment. We have never had the big budgets, full of government money, or the big staffs that other organizations have. But, in spite of our lack of resources we answered 2500 calls from you and people like you last year. These people had all knocked on every other door they could find, to get help for their personal crisis. We did help. We cannot always win every bttle..but we can't win any without your active involvement.
It is so easy to keep the League healthy. Paying dues on time, making whatever donations of time and money you can afford, supporting fund raisers and attending membership meetings. These are the things we need from you--and we need these things now!
Soon, the League, it's money, and the energy of it's few tireless volunteers will be gone. The only person who can help save the commitment of the Ohio League is YOU. Please join us now.
